Saturday Sample

Welcome to Saturday Sample. We'll continue with out excerpts from Flood. I hope you're enjoying them because I really enjoyed writing the book.

Drawn together by their love of animals, Aria De Luca and Caleb Hawkins burn for each other. They never suspected that malignant forces around them were successfully plotting Caleb’s ruin from the moment he entered her life. When the flood of a century strikes Aria’s hometown, an alienated Caleb is all that stands between her and catastrophic loss.

Last Week:
Now that the sun was out of his eyes he saw that the doctor was the best looking woman he’d ever seen. The dark hair that he’d previously observed gleamed blue-black in the sun and curled gently on the ends. Her eyes were dark velvety brown, her skin on the olive side. He gulped. She was slender, but she had curves in all the right places.
He forced himself to stop staring at her. “Do you know who I am?”

“What did you say your name was?”

“Caleb Hawkins.”

She glanced at Peaches, who was still busy licking his hand. “You’re Peaches’ friend from the shelter, right?”

This week:
He nodded. "I hope it was okay for me to come. It was important to me to see for myself that she was okay.” Smiling, he caressed the dog’s face. “She’s better than okay. Thank you, Doctor.”

The doctor beamed at him as though he were an honored guest inste ad of an ex - con come to see a dog. “Of course it was okay. I hoped you would come to see her. Won’t you come in and have something cold? It’s warm today.”

The Blackwood Series

Author: Melissa Ellen
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Available NOW on Kindle Unlimited
Who needs a man? They're nothing but a distraction.
A disappointment.
They sweep you off your feet,
promise you forever, and then as soon as another
beautiful woman shows them interest, they leave you
crying alone on the sidewalk with your dreams of a life
together crushed.
And the sexy playboy that keeps showing up everywhere I go,
is the definition of distraction and inevitable disappointment.
And frankly, I can live without that heartbreak.
I have everything I need to make me
happy - a job, school, friends, and family that I love.
Yep. Mind made up... it's just a shame my body and
heart didn't get the memo.
I've moved on with my life - Rhett Blackwood, who?
I've started over in a new city, with a promising career
ahead of me. I have the independence I've always
wanted. Needed. I've even started dating again. Kinda. Sorta.
The point is, I'm happy. Right?
Then why when he unexpectedly shows back up in my life,
am I still affected by his presence?
Why does just the sight of him leave me breathless?
And why in the hell is my traitorous body begging for him
to touch me again?
I have know idea why he's here, especially now.
But I'll be damned if I let him back into my heart.
Finally! Freedom! Freedom to live my life the way I want!
No parents. No security guard. Nobody to tell me
what to do and when to do it. Well, almost nobody.
My overprotective brother is still around to rain on my parade.
But I can handle him.
After making the move from New York City to Los Angeles,
I’m determined to succeed at making a name for myself -
without using the wealth and connections of my family.
And nothing is getting in my way... except, maybe the most
infuriating and sexiest man I’ve ever met.
He’s everything my brother has always warned me against.
But I can’t help being drawn to him. Something about
the brooding bad boy has me keep going back for more.
He shattered my heart. Rejected me. Rejected my love. Walked away so easily, tossing the three words I told him aside as if they meant nothing. But they meant everything. At least, to me.
Fine. I'm done. He's pushed me away and turned his back on me one too many times. I've accepted it. Accepted that it's over, despite how I feel. But then why is he acting like it's anything but over?

Series: Mystic Series #1
Author: Kelli Marie
Genre: YA Fantasy
Published: October 23, 2017
In the tangled web of greed and power, no one is safe.

For thousands of years, the Mystic race had lived in peace with humans. With the power to control the elements, they helped humankind flourish. But this peace could not last, as greed and a thirst for more power drove men into war and the Mystics began to disappear.
Now the Mystics are gone and Cara is the last of their ancient race. But everything is not as it seems as her eighteenth birthday passes and her powers slowly awaken. She soon learns that she is more than just an ordinary Mystic and that dangerous secrets surround her. With her fiancé, Xavier, and her best friend, Jordan, she must unravel the mysteries of her past in the hopes of saving her future.
Mystic Princess is the first book of the Mystic Series, a fast-paced young adult fantasy that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

“She will save us all someday.”
The woman looks away from the sprawling city before her and regards her husband and the sleeping child in his arms. “How can you be sure?”
“She is the one.”
The woman’s eyes fill with tears as she contemplates her husband’s words. “The prophecy could be wrong.”
“It’s not. Our child is meant for greatness.”
The woman takes the sleeping child from her husband and kisses her head, careful not to wake her. “So we continue with the plan?”
The husband looks at his loving wife and pulls her and his child into his arms. He holds his world to his chest and imagines their stolen lifetime until they hear a knock on the door.
“I will be with you until the end, my love.” The husband whispers.
“Promise me that she will be safe.”
“She will not be hurt, she is too important.”
They both know that his words are empty but he says them anyway. He cannot promise that their child will not suffer. The husband steps away from his wife as tears fill his eyes. He cannot allow his wife to see his pain; it will only make this harder. The woman places the child in her bassinet and as tears fall down her cheeks she murmurs her goodbyes.
The husband places a hand on his wife’s shoulder. “My love, it is time. We cannot delay any longer.”
The wife nods soundlessly and disappears into the bathroom. The husband looks over the edge of the bassinet at his sleeping daughter. “My daughter, you are the light of my world. I’m sorry that it has to be this way. Save our people and none of this will be in vain.”
With his parting words, he turns to his wife as she returns and grabs her hand. He brings her hand to his lips and kisses her knuckles. Love and determination reflects in both their eyes and together they walk out the door to meet their fate.
